Objective of the Event: The lecture was organized on the last day in the series of wildlife week celebrations with an aim to create awareness amongst the participants regarding importance of biodiversity and role of an individual in conserving the biodiversity.

Description:

On the occasion of Wildlife week (1st-7th Oct, 2021) the Environmental Science discipline and Eco-friendly Association of the University has organized a guest lecture on “Biodiversity of India” on 6th October, 2021 at 11:00 am in AV hall. The speaker was Prof. Reena Mathur, Retd. Prof. and former head, Department of Zoology, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.

Prof. Mathur mainly focused on the biodiversity of India and discussed about current data of protected areas like national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, biosphere reserves, hotspots, hopespots etc. in India. She also elaborated upon the  marine biodiversity and conservation strategies adopted by various organizations. She has also highlighted the government initiatives taken to protect and conserve the biodiversity especially wild species in India.

Lastly, she has discussed about various career opportunities on wildlife education.

Overall the session was very fruitful and informative for the students.

 

Outcome of the event: The participants got the information about various government initiatives taken for biodiversity conservation and were also able to understand the measures to be taken by an individual for conserving biodiversity.
