Environmental pollution monitoring and control

Upon completion of this course, students will

CO43: Design monitoring programmes for various pollutants which would help in planning a monitoring and analysis of pollutants

CO44:   Develop sustainable methods of pollution control at using basic principles of various pollution control equipments

CO45: Design pollution prevention and remediation techniques as per the requirement of the establishment/Industry

CO46: Formulate plan for monitoring of various environmental pollutants which would help in Environmental impact assessment

CO47: Investigate the problems due to various industrial processes and related emissions 

CO48: Select suitable cost effective and environmentally sustainable methods for pollution prevention at source by applying the concept of process modification

  • Sampling of particulates (suspended and respirable) by High Volume Sampler/ Respirable dust sampler

Air Pollution Control
  • Control of air pollution by equipments: Settling chambers, Separators, Cyclones, Filters, Electrostatic precipitators and Scrubbers
  • Control of gaseous Contaminants: Absorption, Adsorption, Combustion, Masking and Counteracting, Control at the Source
  • Preventive Techniques: Shift of the sources, Substitution of raw material and fuels, Process modification
  • Alteration of equipments and good operating practices.

  • Treatment of sewage: Primary, secondary and tertiary
  • Attached and Suspended growth system: trickling filters, activated sludge process, MBBR, RBC

  •  Noise Pollution Analyser, Sound absorption coefficient, sound absorbing materials, reverberation time; Acoustic silencers, mufflers, barriers, vibration and impact isolation
