Practical: Biodiversity and Wildlife Management

CO143:  Design and conduct wildlife survey with the help of contemporary tools and techniques that provide some of the data on which wildlife management programs are based

CO144:   Appraise the problems related to wildlife conservation and management through fact file making and map plotting

CO145: Demonstrate effective communication skills through written reports and oral presentations, and use appropriate scientific terminology to communicate findings

CO146: Reflect on personal learning experiences and experimental outcomes during viva voce assessments, synthesizing insights gained to enhance understanding and skill development.

  • Documentation of different species of birds, insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc. in the nearby areas.
  • Preparation of a digital album of local wildlife
  • Determination of Frequency, Density and Abundance of various plant species in a community by quadrate method
  • Wildlife estimation through the Mark Recapture technique
  • Identification of Mammalian Species by Hair Imprinting Method
  • Report writing and presentation on the habitat, behaviour, threats and conservation status of any one endangered species of India

 

PREPARATION OF A RECORD COMPRISING THE FOLLOWING TOPICS ON MAPS

  • Ecozones of India
  • Deserts of the World
  • Forests of India
  • Major Biomes of the World
  • Hotspots of Biodiversity in India and the World
  • Projects Tiger, Lion, Elephant, Gibbon, Rhino and Lion-tailed Macaque in India
  • National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Biosphere Reserves in India
  • National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Tiger Reserves in Rajasthan
  • Ramsar sites in India

 

VISIT

In this semester each student must visit a National Park/ any natural habitat/ Sanctuary and prepare a report of the same, marks for which will be added to the practical exam

 

Note: Any other practical exercise (related to theory) may be conducted besides the ones mentioned above.
