Pollution monitoring and control

Upon completion of this course, students will

CO73: Design monitoring  programmes for various pollutants which would help in planning a monitoring and analysis of pollutants

CO74: Develop sustainable method pollution control at using basic prin ciple of various pollution control equipment

CO75: Design pollution prevention and remediation techniques as per the requirement            of            the establishment/Industry

CO76: Formulate plan for monitoring of various environmental pollutants which would help in Environmental impact assessment

Guided and shared readings, Discussions, Demonstration, Use of informative videos, discussion of case studies

Learning activities for the students: Analysis and suggestions of case studies, Power point presentations for result analysis of research papers

  • Chemistry of global warming, acid rain and Ozone depletion

Air Pollution Control
  • Control of air pollution by equipments: Settling chambers, Separators, Cyclones, Filters, Electrostatic precipitators and Scrubbers
  • Control of gaseous Contaminants: Absorption, Adsorption, Combustion, Masking and Counteracting, Control at the Source
  • Preventive Techniques: Shift of the sources, Substitution of raw material and fuels, Process modification
  • Alteration of equipment and good operating practices.

  • Attached and Suspended growth system: trickling filters, Activated Sludge process (ASP), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) and RBC, Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
