  • Sources of air pollution
  • Types of air pollutants and their characteristics
  • Effects of major air pollutants (SOx, NOx, CO2, O3,PM) on living and non-living components
  • Basic methods of air pollution control (Reduction at source, change of process)
  • Equipment used to control air pollution-cyclones, ESP, fabric filters & wet scrubbers.

Water Pollution and its control
  • Sources of water pollution & Types of water pollutants (Inorganic, organic, O2 demanding, thermal, radioactive and disease-causing agents)
  • Effects of Water Pollution
  • Potable Water Treatment process –Aeration, Softening, Coagulation & Flocculation, Sedimentation, Filtration, Disinfection (Chlorination, UV, Ozonation)

  • Major sources of soil pollution
  • Types of soil pollutants (domestic and municipal waste, industrial and mining waste, agricultural waste, radioactive and chemical waste)

  • Fundamentals of Noise: Characteristics of Sound (Pitch, Frequency, Amplitude, Wavelength, loudness), Sound Pressure, Sound Intensity
  • Major sources of Noise Pollution
  • Effects of noise pollution on human health
  • Control of noise pollution: Sound absorbing materials, reverberation time; Acoustic silencers, vibration and impact isolation
