VISIT TO A VILLAGE HAJAYAWALA, SANGANER FOR GENERATING AWARENESS AMONG FARMERS

A visit to a village Hajayawala, Sanganer, Jaipur was organized by the  Department of Environmental Science of the IIS University on 22nd March 2017 as an extension activity for generating awareness amongst villagers regarding extensive use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers,textile wastewater for irrigation purpose in agricultural fields and their effects on biotic and abiotic components of environment. A group of 25 students and two faculty members of the department participated in the activity.

The lectures were given by the students of M.Sc (P) of Environmental Science department. Students also prepared posters related to the subject to make the farmers understand things in a better way. They have not only given information about the harmful effects of use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and  textile wastewater but also shared the information with the villagers about the solution which they can adopt to lower down their effects  on environmental components, if alternate source of water is not available. A brief session on the various government schemes offered for the farmers were also discussed during the session.

The farmers were found to be enthusiastic about the sessions. This awareness program was found to be informative and knowledgeable for the villagers.
