This course will enable the students to –

  1. Enhance practical skills for physicochemical quality assessment of waste water
  2. Develop skills for planning monitoring programmes for pollution prevention and interpret the results.

Upon completion of this practical course, students will:

CO57: Design the water quality monitoring programmes according to the process requirement

CO58: Interpret environmental chemistry of pollutants and their basic analytical techniques

CO59: Examine the analytical techniques for analysis of water quality parameters

CO60: Explain the interrelationship of various water quality parameters

Approach in teaching:

Conduction of practical exercises, Interpretation of results obtained after analysis of samples

Learning activities for the students:

Preparation of flow charts for conduction of practical exercises, Interpretation of results according to the given case studies

Preparation of practical records, Viva Voce, Class Test,

  • Objectives of Water Quality Monitoring
  • Type of Samples: Grab, Composite and Integrated
  • Estimation of pH in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Acidity in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Alkalinity in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Chloride in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Chlorine demand in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Dissolved oxygen in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Total hardness in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Total suspended solids in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Biochemical Oxygen Demand in waste water sample
  • Estimation of Chemical Oxygen Demand in waste water sample
  • Qualitative estimation of nitrate in waste water sample
  • Qualitative estimation of phosphate in waste water sample

Note:  Any other practical exercise (related to theory) may be conducted besides the ones mentioned above.
