Objective: 

This course will enable the students to –

  1. Introduce students with the theory and practice of environmental impact assessment (EIA), a tool to attain sustainable development. The course provides an overview of the concepts, methods, issues and various forms and stages of the EIA process.
  2. Help students learn the process of consideration of the environment in the planning and decision-making process to arrive at actions that avoid or minimize adverse impacts on the environment

Environmental Impact assessment

Upon completion of this course, students will:

CO41: Appraise the critical theories of environmental impact assessment for application in varied situations

CO42: Judge the importance of Social Impact Assessments and public participation in the EIA process

CO43: Develop insight of methods and instruments that are commonly used to develop an EIA

CO44: Develop skills to conduct Environmental Audit for different industrial and other units

Approach in teaching:

Explicit teaching, Interactive Lectures, Group Discussions, Discussion of case studies

Discussion of case studies, Suggesting mitigative/ remediation methods for development projects, Power point presentations, Weekly class assessment
