This course will enable the students to -

  1. Focus on the various methods of monitoring and equipment and techniques used in control of Environmental pollutants
  2. Develop skills for executing Environmental monitoring programmes for pollution prevention and remediation

Pollution monitoring and control

CO101: Acquire knowledge of atmospheric processes for pollution prevention and control

CO102: Plan the implementation of pollution control techniques for specific industrial processess

CO103: Design monitoring programmes for various pollutants which would help in planning a monitoring and analysis of pollutants

CO104: Develop sustainable method pollution control at using basic principle of chemistry and microbiology

 CO105: Design pollution prevention and remediation techniques as per the requirement of the  establishment/Industry

 CO106: Contribute effectively in course-specific interaction

Approach in teaching:

Guided and shared readings, Discussions, Demonstration, Use of informative videos, discussion of case studies

Learning activities for the students: Analysis and suggestions of case studies, Power point presentations for result analysis of research papers

  • Control of air pollution by equipments: Settling chambers, Cyclones, Filters, Electrostatic precipitators and Scrubbers
  • Control of gaseous Contaminants: Absorption, Adsorption, Combustion, Masking and Counteracting, Control at the Source
  • Preventive Techniques: Shift of the sources, Substitution of raw material and fuels, Process modification

  • Characteristics of industrial wastewater and sewage
  • Treatment of sewage: Primary, secondary and tertiary
  • Attached and Suspended growth system: trickling filters, Activated Sludge process (ASP), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) and RBC, Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
